I have had numerous bruised toe nails- I used to dance en pointe, and almost every year they turned black and fell off ( or were ripped off)-but they came back every time. I would recommend trimming away the bruised part-so that it won't get ripped off-much more painful. There is going to be times when it will fall off and there will be times it wont.Depends on the nature of the hit.Soak it with Epsom salt with some Luke warm water.That would save it but will help it heal quicker.
