I have only one toe nail (big toe) that has somediscoloration-for about 2 yrs.-others are fine. What is it?

You probably have a toe nail fungus. Try vick's salve twice a day until the nail is clear.I have only one toe nail (big toe) that has somediscoloration-for about 2 yrs.-others are fine. What is it?
As others have said you probably have a fungal nail infection. You can get nail laquers from the pharmacy but they won't work if the fungal infection is deep and affecting the nail bed. In this case you would need tablets from your doctor but these tablets can be quite nasty and not recommended if you have any medical conditions. They also take 6-12 months to completely work.

Alternatively, have you stubbed your toe or dropped anything on it in the past? This could be a reason for the discolouration.

It is hard to tell without knowing what colour it actually is e.g brown, yellow? and is the nail thickened and does it crumble at all?

If you are worried see a Podiatrist or your GP, they might well take a nail sample and have it analysed to confirm a fungal infection.

It may be a fungal infection. There are over-the-counter creams that can help. Keeping the nail covered with nail polish is sometimes effective.
