Bruise on my toe nail still hasn't healed? Should I wait to let it heal or see a physician?

A while back I dropped a piece of lumber on my big toe. It has been 4 months now and the bruise is still there. It does not hurt at all though. There may be blood under the toenail. My son had to have a hole drilled in his toenail to let the blood out. I would see a doctor to have it checked.
You can only release the blood collecting if you put a hole in the nail within an hour. You do not need to see your doctor. The dark purple colour is just dried blood and will grow out with the nail which will obviously take a while.
If there is no pain or swelling do not worry. The discoloration is from blood vessel rupture when the injury occured, it's just old blood stuck under there. It will go away as the nail grows out which can take 6 months to a year depending on your age and general health. Idropped a stock pallet on my toe in November, it has only grown out about half an inch so far.
