I'm looking for an alternative treatment for my toenail.Does anyone know of a cream or lotion that may help ,as i dont fancy having nail removed,Its come off twice in the past and grown back thicker each time.So a cream or such will be a much better option for me .I have a real problem cutting it and my local chiropodist says i dont qualify for treatment unless i pay,as i'm only on a pension i cant really afford it.What treatment is available for Fungal Toe Nail?
Prescription drugs for fungal nail (toenail and fingernail) treatment
The most common active ingredient is terbinafine, used in Lamisil and other well known drugs for treatment and cure.
Other active ingredients are itraconazole and griseofulvin. There are studies pointing towards a better success rate with the terbinafine based drugs - although the success rate is not very impressive in any case.
Some of the available (presciption) drugs are (the active ingredient stated before the name):
* Terbinafine Lamisil
* Terbinafine Actavis
* Terbinafine Alpharma
* Terbinafine Copyfarm
* Terbinafine Galderma
* Terbinafine Hexal
* Terbinafine IVAX
* Terbinafine Merck NM
* Terbinafine Nordic Drugs
* Terbinafine Ratiopharm
* Terbinafine STADA
* Itraconazole Merck NM
* Itraconazole Sandoz
* Itrakonazole Actavis
* Itrakonazole STADA
Prescription tablets (like Lamisil) are used for 3 months and it has approximately 50% success rate. Unfortunately there is a very high risk (90%) that your toe nail fungus will come back after treatment.What treatment is available for Fungal Toe Nail?
Curanail... available from chemists.
There is cream for this - ask for it in the chemist. Why hasn`t your doctor prescribed you something....?
soak your feet in a bowl of warm water with a couple of drops of tea tree oil dry thoroughly and then carefully put a small drop on each nail and massage in try and get it to go behind the nail don't put too much on
your GP can prescribe something you paint on your toe nail (sorry forget the name), if your over 65yrs then the prescription will be free.
It you are thinking of wasting your pension on alternative therapies I would go look for an alternative disease!
If you are a pensioner go see your GP. He can prescribe either topical lacquers like Loceryl or an oral anti-fungal and your prescription will be FREE!
Toe nails need prolonged treatment sometimes for a year or more, there is also no need to have the nail removed.
My husband has been using coconut oil on his and it's worked in that it has got rid of the gross yellow smelly stuff under his toe nails. But there is still a lot of the white fungus on the nails, however it looks like it's slowly improving. He puts it on his skin as well to moisturise it as he has itchy feet as well. Be warned though, you do have to use it for a long time - he's been using it every night for about 8 months. You just rub it on the toenail straight from the tub. You can get it from Holland and Barrat for 拢10 for a large tub. It stays solid at room temperature but goes liquid on contact with your body or in direct heat. Good luck. See the GP as well, they may help you.

curanail is a recommended treatment providing you are not diabetic and are over 18. you have to paint the treatment on once a week over a period of weeks, it is expensive though, or you could use an anti fungal cream.
I had gone to a podiatrist (chiropodist is same thing :) and he did a culture of my toenails which was basically clipping the very ends of the nails to test for fungus. Fortunately, the test came back as negative and instead the scrapiness that I had or have is from medications that I take. Before getting the results of my culture (which I had to drop off at a medical lab in a plastic bag that dr provided), I did ask the foot dr if Vicks Vaporub may help with toenail fungus and he actually agreed but that it might take several months before the healthy nail grew back in. The internal Lamisil (taken by mouth) is supposed to be very hard on the liver, just fyi.
