How do you get rid of a dead toe nail?

I had surgery on my toe nail 2 months ago. I knew my toe nail was going to fall off. What I didn't know was it was going to really fal off once I kicked something walking. How my toe nail is hanging on my the ride side of my toe. Should I rip it off, or let if fall off nautally? How do you get rid of a dead toe nail?
Cover it with a bandaid to splint it in a ';normal'; position. It will fall off all by itself. If you rip it off it might still be attached and you'd leave an open wound susceptible to infection. How do you get rid of a dead toe nail?
It will probably fall off naturally. just let nature take its course ;)

Go to your surgeon and see what he or she recommends to do. Generally speaking if something is just hanging by a thread, its best to take if of. Its sort of like a loos tooth when you were a kid. You have to remember, now you toe will be exposed. The toe nail protects your toe from being injured. Its like a coat of armor.

There are some Ballet dancers who have lost their big toe nail (an occupational hazard from time-to-time) that keep their big toe nails in a box and tape them on when they dance. I believe you will have to have something on it but also give it some time to air out.

I am going to urge you to again, call the surgeon who did the original operation on your toe. I am sure there is something out there besides a bandaide that you can wear until your nail grows back. There is something out there that is cushioned and will not slip off. Try a medical supply store but after you speak with your surgeon. You have to know what you are looking for. You have to know what questions to ask a doctor and an attorney; they will tell you unless you insist taht is who they have tradionally fuctioned. I guess they feel if they volunteer the information it will spawn more questions. They just don't have the time.

In spite of all this, your surgeon is responsible to provide you with this information in regard to any complicatins that may arise; its part of the hypocratic oath each physician takes, and also as a professonal in the medical field. Your doctor cannot legally or morally leave you hanging like this. INSIST that you need a resolution to this as you have to go places and things to do, you need something that will sufficiently cover your toe nail until it grows out. Its not the doctors toe, they will not have the pain or any problems resulting from this. As a matter of fact, your doctor may dismiss it, don't let that happen.
