My dog had a long toe nail and it broke off and it looks painful what do i do?

My dog broke his nail almost to his paw and he is limping will it hurt him if it falls off all of the way? We were planning to get his nails clipped this week but then this happened before we had the chance. I heard if a vein gets cut in his nail he will bleed to death is that true? Keep it clean, a broken nail will grow back in a few weeks. As for them bleeding to death, did your dog bleed any? If he did, then you know what the effect would be. Take him to the vet, because the nail could get infected.
u should really try to hold him still while someone cuts off the excess (NOT where its broken, but where u would have cut it had it not broke). i would then try and keep it wrapped (in bandages or a sock) until it starts to heal up a bit.

No he won't bleed to death, unless he has some bleeding disorder and you don't get the bleeding stopped.. What breed is he?





Honestly you can try to cover it, but it usually causes more problems than it's worth and you bring attention and get them bugging the nail.. All you can really do is keep it clean and he'll guard it and in a week or so it's not going to bother him so much.
