Help, my little toe's nail is going to break off! How should I take care of it?

I noticed today that my toenails all look quite unhealthy, is there any vitamins or food that I need to eat to prevent unhealthy nails?

Also, my little toe's nail is beginning to break off! It is probably due to basketball. Will it grow back? It hurts when I bend the nail. How should I take care of it? Thank youHelp, my little toe's nail is going to break off! How should I take care of it?
You probably have a lack of vitamins in your system, A, B, C, also calcium and protein. Try a 1 a day vitamin.

As far as your pinky toe nails, they'll grow back, use a toenail clipper and clip them down to where they don't hurt anymore.

What is a good toe nail polish color for summer?

Any bright colours i know alot of people are saying red but unless your going bright cherry red NO REDS definitly NOT yellow if you have pale skin! but pink and green work for everyone and there the in coulours this season!!What is a good toe nail polish color for summer?

Lite pink
ORANGE!!!!

Cherry red, orange, yellow or light green.
anything light or bright...dont go for the darks.
i read somewhere that iridecent colors are 'in'.
reddish orangish pinkish lol. idk what its called!! but it looks extra cute on toenails!!!
I always wear pink altho my bathing suit is black, cause black just isnt a nice color for toes
French manicure. Goes with everything and totally easy to DIY with those stickers from the drugstore.
pink light by revlon. it is gorgeous and will make ur nails gleam!
pinks are always good, always go for bright colors
JUST TRY TO MATCH TO MOST OF YOUR WARDROBE, THAT IS, ONLY IF THEY'RE BRIGHT AND SUMMERY COLORED.
vibrant Colors
hmmm . . . i like light, shimmery green. or pink.
light colors, red always works, and the thing that's in now is the french manicure on the toes...those look really good.
pink and blue
like a shiny glittery pink if a saw you like that i would want to date you more than i do now and i really want to
i personally like peaches or pinks even french manicure. The like colors tend to make your skin look tanner. And, of course, make sure there is a little shimmer to them.

Justice was served when he married an ugly, nasty woman.
yeah i had an accident with my toe then years later the toe nail started growing in the wrong way so the doc said we have to take the toe nail off so they popped it out
Almost lost a finger when a door slammed into it during a storm

Half of my pinky toe-nail came off when i woke up this morning?

Yesterday I was just walking around New York City. I didn't wear socks, even though I should have. When I came home, everything was attached. This morning when I woke up, I saw that half of my nail on my pinky toe was nearly ripped off entirely.

What could have caused this? What can I do to increase strength in nails in my diet?Half of my pinky toe-nail came off when i woke up this morning?
were you walkin around barefoot?

you might have gotten an infection which cause the toe nail to fall off

if not then maybe it caught on something that caused it to tear off without you noticing...i heard that can happen but idk fersure

as for increased nail strenth i use this nail polish by sally hansen thats suppose to make your nails stongerHalf of my pinky toe-nail came off when i woke up this morning?
Sometimes mine with fall off. I don't have strong nails ethier. It they are painted they are a bit harder ( IDK why ) . I just use cheap fun colored stuff from Ardenes. Also I keep my nails really short ( But not funny looking or painful short ). Just short enough so they don't chip or whatever.

My mom also used to have really weak nails when she was my age but they got harder eventually.

  • I think i have an infection on my big toe. My nail digs into the side. Does anybody know how to get rid of it?

There is a huge bump and it is very delicate. It hurts alot and sometimes puss comes out.I think i have an infection on my big toe. My nail digs into the side. Does anybody know how to get rid of it?
if you can't dig it out yourself and dig ALL of it out from under the skin see a doctor they will prescribe antibiotics for it for the infection, and often times this pushes the nail out as it heals. If that dosent work a doctor will pull the nail out in a quick procedureI think i have an infection on my big toe. My nail digs into the side. Does anybody know how to get rid of it?
first, you soak it so the ingrown nail is easier and less painful to remove. then try to pick it out with your finger. if this is too painful, then put something under your nail until it has space. put some neosporin on it. this will take 1-2 weeks.
You need to clean it put Tea Tree Oil on it you need to cut your nail that digs in on an angle on side of toe put that on a couple times a day for a couple of weeks
The bump on the side sounds awful. All my toenails curl inward. I'm sorry you go through this.
its a ingrown toenail I had about 3 of these best thing go to the dr have him take care of it .

I have had at least 5 in-grown toe nail surgeries and one of my toe nails is a little brown and green?

The other toenail is fine and the doctor says its cosmetic i have the option to get it removed but it would be painful is it worth the money and pain??? im only 13 please helpI have had at least 5 in-grown toe nail surgeries and one of my toe nails is a little brown and green?
Aww you beat me!! I had about 4 in-grown toe nail surgeries. But uhm.. about the color, Im not sure why its that color. But for me, my doctor first cut off nail that was in my skin and applied phenol acid. The phenol acid basically stopped the nail from growing so it wont grow into my skin. You should ask your foot doctor if they have any phenol acid. Its been almost a year since my last surgery and my toe is now fine. Other than that, if they don't have the option of applying phenol acid you will have to get it removed. But im sure that they do have that option since it is a whole lot better than removing your toe nail

Hope that helps =]I have had at least 5 in-grown toe nail surgeries and one of my toe nails is a little brown and green?
    Best to get a 2nd %26amp; 3rd medical opinion.

Does toe nail polish strengthen or weaken your toe nail?

So I am not a person to paint their toes, but I was not sure as to whether or not painting your toe nails was bad for the nail or good? Does anybody know if it even has an effect at all? Thanks!Does toe nail polish strengthen or weaken your toe nail?
All nail polishes contain many chemicals even the ones that say ';stengthens'; and so on. Whether your going to use it on ur fingernails or toes wont matter because nail polishes make nails weaker than they normally are. Alot of the time when a person buys and uses ';fortifying'; or '; strengthening'; polishes it seems the nails are harder thus stronger, but really its just the polish coat on the nail dried. Yes polishes do come with vitamins in few but they really dont help because the chemicals in polishes just wear them out. There are very few polishes that strengthen but are few and not easy to find.

How can you relive pain from and stubborn big toe nail?

the corner of my toe is in so much pain, i cut the nail so that its on an angle and its no were near the crease of my toes but the pain is still there.

Could it be a be a build up of skin and if so what should I do? should I be attempting this myself? How can you relive pain from and stubborn big toe nail?
i have had this before and i know your pain! The nerves in your cuticle in your toe are probably being pinched. It is no big deal, so you don't have to worry about going to the doctor. Just try to fight the pain and it will get better by itself. Avoid picking at your toe because it could cause bleeding if you end up cutting the cuticle and that makes the pain even worse! How can you relive pain from and stubborn big toe nail?
    Hydrogen Peroxide solves everything, lol.

I don't know why you would want to relive any pain.
Go to the Doctor. They'll freeze it, and cut out a portion of your nail. It's very simple, and really not a big deal.

How much does it cost to treat an ingrown toe nail?

free in canada, france, england and swedenHow much does it cost to treat an ingrown toe nail?
By yourself or by a doc ? Podiatrist or even general docs charge about 75.00 a visit so at least that plus products you may have to buy.

If you don't have any moula then try soaking your foot in very warm H20 w/ epsom salts in it (1.00 at the dollar store) and applying antibiotic ointment and cover w/ a dressing( I used duct tape to keep it in place) Do 1x a day-all products mentioned are at the dollar store so for about 5.00 you can treat the owie. I would say it should be lots better in two days or so but continue until all the pain and redness is gone.

As the toe feels better clean away skin ect. and file off to a straight edge that ends about the top off the toe-don't cut too short as thats usually what causes a ingown toenail.

Good luck !How much does it cost to treat an ingrown toe nail?

    It's about $300, I have had two!

  • Is there any treatment that can get rid of finger and toe nail fungus in a month or two? My nails are twisting?

My nails are raising up off my skin, they are inflamed under the nail and also they are yellow and brown. i think this is due to my psoriasis, but I need to get rid of the ugly nails asap! thanksIs there any treatment that can get rid of finger and toe nail fungus in a month or two? My nails are twisting?
Getting rid of finger nail fungus is easier in some ways, and more difficult in others. Many people will act on a finger nail infection long before they will start asking how to get rid of toe nail fungus, simply because toes can be kept out of sight, but ugly fingernails are a daily embarrassment. People start getting rid of finger nail fungus before the infection is too far advanced. However, it's much harder to get a topical treatment to stay on a fingernail when you鈥檙e using your hands all the time, and it's much harder to sit for 15 to 30 minutes every day with your hands soaking in a solution.

Pick any method for getting rid of finger nail fungus, or any advice on how to get rid of toe nail fungus. If you do any reading, you will quickly discover that all methods are fickle. VapoRub works for some and not for others. Stories of success with a vinegar soak abound; so do stories of failure. Some lucky people report success in weeks; some stress that you may have to keep at it for a year or more. Even the prescription medications have a relatively poor success rate. The bottom line is that curing nail fungus infection is difficult.

for me and my husband worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me and my husband!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=221781

My 3rd toe nail suddenly turned white and as I inspected it. It starting gushing a clear fluid.I removed it.RR

I recently had the same problem with my big toe.It became infected and it had to be partialy amputated because the infection went into the bone. I have had these problems off and on since I was in New Orleans after Katrina. My work involved being in the muck left over on the ground and in flooded homes. My 3rd toe nail suddenly turned white and as I inspected it. It starting gushing a clear fluid.I removed it.RR
Maybe some bacteria got under the nail and started to grow? Hope your other toes will be okay! There are some cleansing fluids to help reduce the fluids and infection.

~KaseyMy 3rd toe nail suddenly turned white and as I inspected it. It starting gushing a clear fluid.I removed it.RR
seems like you have a chronic infection, possibly systemic. you should have a doctor treat this and get rid of it altogether. you also need to work on your immune system and stop doing the things that weaken it - no smoking, etc, etc.
I'm not sure what your question is. You really need to ask a doctor about this. Best of luck to you.

I own a pitbull and he ripped his toe nail almost completely off what should i do?

Take him to an ER vet!!!

Was it his dew claw?I own a pitbull and he ripped his toe nail almost completely off what should i do?
Stop the bleeding first. If you have corn starch, or flour, put that on his toe till the bleeding stops. It'll feel VERY sore, but you can't do a whole lot about it. If the nail is hanging by a thread, it's best to cut it off completely since it's not going to be able to be put back on.

It's like us loosing a fingernail--it hurts like heck but it grows back. Give him some loving and let him know you know it hurts. Call the vet tomorrow morning and ask them, but really other than making sure nothing of the nail is still dangling and pulling on the toe, they can't do a whole lot about it. Usually the foot isn't bandaged, but left to air heal.I own a pitbull and he ripped his toe nail almost completely off what should i do?
This happened to my dog! I actually brought him to the vet and the vet told me this happens all the time. He cut the nail off but he told me in the future to leave it alone and it will fall off on its own and the dog probably doesn't even notice it. I was surprised by that, but i guess cut it yourself, bring him to vet, or leave it.
Pack flour into what is left of the nail to stop the bleeding and try your best to not allow him to lick/chew at the area. If this means you need to go out and purchase an Elizabethan Collar, go for it. You need to keep him away from the toe.

He will need to be seen at the vet so they can trim off any parts of the nail that have the potential of splitting (because this can cause further injury) AND for antibiotics. The LAST thing you want is for the nail bed and toe to become infected, trust me.

Don't be surprised if your veterinarian asks you to soak the foot in Epson Salts.

I wish you the best of luck!
You need to take him to the vet and have it taken off. You don't want him catching it on something and tearing it off. He may get it infected then you will have bigger problems and he is probably in some pain. This happened to my German Shep and the Vet just took it off and stopped the bleeding gave her an antibiotic shot and she was fine in about a week. Good luck
You've got to bring him to a vet.Since you can't get to a vet today ,bathe the foot in warm soapy water, flush with peroxide ,dry with a clean towel, and apply some ointment like Neosporin or Triple antibiotic ointment .Ask at a pharmacy if you don't have it.
My dog's never done that. Is he wimpering bleeding or screaming then take him to the vet. If not it's probably normal and he just wanted your attention so he ripped it off to get alot of it. But seriously take him to see the vet to make sure he is ok.
If it is bleeding put some Cayenne on the end (it won't hurt i have done it on myself) it is a new natural remedy. after you do that, gently file the end so it doesn't catch on anything and get worse. The nail will grow back.
Depending on how badly it's bleeding, you should take him to the vet. If it just fell off on its own, it should be fine and grow back itself.
If there is blood mix flour and water into a paste and apply it to the nail. It will harden and stop the bleeding
Any bad reactions. I reccomend if you think its bothering you and the dog to much. Take him to the vet.
Take him to the vet. It could get infected and he'll probably need an antibiotic.
Is it bleeding? Is he in pain? If so, i would take him to a vet!
Ya if i got shot in the face wat do i do??? duh take him to the vet
id do wat she said cause it might also get infected
Bring Him to the vet this maybe serious
take him to the vet NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
umm... take him to the vet? haha.

What color toe nail polish do u have on ?

Im gonna paint my toe nails wondering which color is most popular or which you like the best ? %26amp; whyWhat color toe nail polish do u have on ?
i have this sally hansen hot pink color

i love it its so summer-y

but i like bright purples, oranges, champagnes, and bright electric blues

its all about the bright colors!

have fun painting your nails :)What color toe nail polish do u have on ?
well actually i think nail polish is a stupid idea. if you add up all the time to paint your toe nails in your life and the money you spend on polish and removing the polish you could read several books, learn and hobby and save enough money to have a holiday overseas. also, did you know that for $20 only, the fred hollows association can perform an eye operation and make a child who is blind see in one eye. imagine..... 4 bottles of nail polish you buy could change a child's life forever, she could learn to read and write, will not have to stay home all her life, can grow up and get a boyfirend and a job to help her poor family feed themselves and not be a burden on everyone. I know if you were living in burma or india, you'd like some girl to forget about her nailpolish for a year and help you. think about it. i know from experience, the nail polish will not make you feel as good as knowing that you've donated the $20 to a charity. you'll be soooo much more beautiful on the inside if you do.
Well, I absolutely love a French pedicure and have one now.

BUT when I'm lazy and don't feel like putting in the effort (which is 90% of the time), I usually have pink. My fave shade right now is Chicago Champagne Toast, by OPI. Best polish!

Pink is my fave because it's cute and feminine and you can wear it with everything! You can't say that about all colors.

    this colour infact...i love it!

i had the simple surgery done on my left big toe. the doc cut down both sides of my nail to remove the ingrown parts. simple huh? ... its still about 3 times the size of a normal toe but its no longer black or green its like a yellow and red sorta deal. ... Good luck to you and let us know what you decide to do.
Just do not think about it and soak it in hot water after the surgery!!!!!!!!!!
You should not feel any pain whatsoever during the procedure. If the podiatrist is competent, the local anesthesia (a nerve block -- injection of lidocaine into the two sides of the toe) will prevent any pain. You will feel the pressure of the doctor cutting the nail, but absolutely no pain will be felt during the procedure if the nerve block is done properly.

If you are feeling any pain during the procedure then let the podiatrist know.

  • Has anyone had a toe nail biopsy? I had one on nov 24th still no results I am scared?

I just want to know what was your experience it is taking so long it was my pinky toe i am scared of melonoma.Has anyone had a toe nail biopsy? I had one on nov 24th still no results I am scared?
Most biopsies are done as a ';just in case'; measure. Taking this long is uncommon, but not unheard of. It's not really an indication either way though.

What colour should my toe nail colour be if I'm wearing a white dress with blue wedges (heels)?

Pls answer me asap! What colour should my toe nail colour be if I'm wearing a white dress with blue wedges (heels)?
just do the nice normal one. goes with everything. french...see thru with white line. or very light pink with the white line ..What colour should my toe nail colour be if I'm wearing a white dress with blue wedges (heels)?
Like some of the others, put me down as voting for French Tips. That would look best to go with what you are describing. If that isn't possible, then go with all white on your toes, and pale pink for your fingers.
id go for a pale pink :) it wont compete or clash with your shoes and it won't be blah you can also get a cute topcoat for it good luck hope it helps :)
I'd just get a shimmery cream color and do the nails on hands and toes in that. I think it looks sophisticated and understated.
red or pink if you want them to stand out and have a little pop, blue, silver or black if you want them to blend in.
    LIGHT BLUE

    but not that lite

    =D
maybe a purple or pink would be nice
Um. You should defiantly paint them clear, with French tip! my fav.

How to care for a torn off toe Nail?

I had went to close my door at work and the door had ripped my large toe nail clean off. it was only being held my the cutical, i had removed the nail but i need to know how to care for it. when i put a bandage on it it does not dry out but i don't want to leave it exposed for infection. it hurts really bad.and i need some advice? How to care for a torn off toe Nail?
I tore my big toe nail off as well this past December. ( I was pushing my couch with my foot and the couch won) It took 6 weeks before I was able to take the whole nail off, but when i did my nail was also covered in pus. I went out and bought some ';Johnson and Johnson First Aid triple layer non-stick pads';, some antibiotic ointment and gauzetape. I kept it clean, and even used hydrogen peroxide on it occasionally. (that hurts a bit but cleans it out well) The gauze tape is like a self sticking bandage that only sticks to itself. With the non stick pad you wont have to worry about the bandage drying out and needing to re open any wound by ripping the dried bandage off. I did that until the area where the nail should be stopped producing pus then my nail was growing in the mean time...4 months later my nail is almost completely back.. another month or so and it should be all good.

good luckHow to care for a torn off toe Nail?
I did the same thing, but it was my pinky toe %26amp; I kicked the tire on the grocery cart. It was bleeding so I wiped it with a clean moist paper towel. When I got home I just put a dry bandaid over it and held it in place until the pain was completely gone and then eventually cut the nail off. I would keep neosporin ointment and a bandaid on it, especially when wearing a closed shoe! the exposed skin can get infected if you don't protect it. It will eventually heal up and the pain will go away (in a few days) and then you can let it air dry and your nail will eventually grow back.
Well, this happend to me when I was about 12 I think. If it didn't bleed there probably isn't much of anything open to be infected. I think I left mine open most of the time from what I remember but it's best to call a doctor to get a professional opinion. I'm from BC %26amp; we have a 24hr nurseline, you coudl try that if you have one in your area or the # is 1-866-215-4700. Not sure if you will be able to call from your area but worth a try. Best bet is to talk to a doctor though! Just a forewarning, it may not grow back normally. Mine is now thick %26amp; yellowish (from the thickness) one one foot %26amp; the other foot, the nail came off last year, I think due to frostbite/trauam %26amp; it grew back normally with just a little ridge in it. Just to prepare you in case. Hope yours turns out normal!
Wash it with lukewarm water and medicated soap like sulfur soap. Then let it dry by not wrapping it with bandage. Plus refrain from eating meat, eggs, chicken, beef, salty, sweet and fatty food to help in the healing process. Also do not eat watermelon, grapes, mangoes and cantaloupe. Drink lots of water, 10-15 glasses a day.

    Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michelle, I did the same with a thumb nail. Doc told me to soak it 4 times a day in a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water for 20 min at a time, and i used finger rubbers to keep out any outside germs betwen soakings. Do this for 2-3 wks till it starts to show healing
you dont need to do all that fancy stuff unless it gets infected. get some bandaids and wear them if it hurts. other then that it will heal by itself.
tape a good piece of corn on it.

WHY does my big toe nail grow with splits in it?

MY BIG TOE NAIL HAS2 SPLITS IN IT ON EITHER SIDE AND ALWAYS SEEMS TO GROW THIS WAY. ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR A FEW YEARS NOW AND I THOUGHT TO MYSELF I WILL LET IT GROW AND THEN TRIM IT AND PERHAPS WONT GROW SPLIT BUT ALWAYS SEEMS TO. WHAT MAY THIS BE AND IS IT A CONCERN, SHOULD I HAVE IT LOOKED AT?WHY does my big toe nail grow with splits in it?
Nails that always grow with a split in it is almost always because they were damaged at some point. For instance, you might drop a can of peas on your foot, it can damage the matrix (where your nail grows from) and it will never grow properly again. You might not even remember doing it because it didn't seem like a big deal at the time.

Keep the nail as short as possible. If its causing you problems, like pain or irritation you could go to a doctor but their answer would probably be removing part of the nail.

If it isn't really bother you, it isn't all that big a deal, try to live with it.WHY does my big toe nail grow with splits in it?
Split Nails, Prevention and Treatment of Splitting Fingernails and Toenails

If you suffer from split nails (fingernails or toenails or both), then you have come to the right place for therapeutic treatment advice and support.

Note: The information on this site is non-medical. Splitting nails can sometimes be a syptom of disease. Consult qualified medical personnel for medical advice.

As our skin gets dryer due to weather or natural aging, our fingernails and toenails tend to split more often. The medical term for this is onychoschizia, and the splitting can happen because the nail plates are brittle, soft, thin, frail or have ridges. Women suffer more than men from broken, cracked nails, perhaps because the most common cause of splitting nails is soaking in water (often associated with dishwashing). Another cause of split fingernails is fingernail polish remover. Fingernails can also be damaged by accidentally hitting them. To avoid split nails, you shoule avoid the things that cause them:

Wear rubber gloves when washing dishes.

Don't let solvents like paint thinner and overn cleaner contact your nails.

    Avoid long tub baths.

Apply lanolin or jojoba lotions to the nails before and after exposure to water.

Avoid damaging your nails...easier said than done, of course, but don't use your nails for prying or pushing any more than necessary.

Here are recommendations for preventing and treating split nails:

Short nails are less likely to suffer damage than long nails.

Wear gloves when performing tasks that may damage the nails.

Wear nail polish, including nail polish with fibers that strengthen the nails.

Use wooden instruments, rather than metal, to push back the cuticle.

Keep nail tips rounded to a smooth curve.

Some supplements, including gelatin, certain vitamins and minerals may help nails grow faster and stronger.

  • Why is my toe nail in both feet black on the inner side?

I thought it was because of a leather shoe that did not let the nail breathe but now I haven't been wearing those shoes but an old pair of jogging ones and they are black again. Their consistence seems also to be quite hard, I mean, harder than normal. I have checked my glicemia on a 3 month basis and it is fine. Why is my toe nail in both feet black on the inner side?
Maybe bruised up. Did you drop something on it? That sounds nasty, you might wanna go get a cute pedicure to cover that up. ewWhy is my toe nail in both feet black on the inner side?
    either bruised or hurt.
Discoloured and brittle nails can be a sign of a fungal infection. These can be treated by painting with a fungicide from a pharmacy, just be aware that it can take several months to clear. If you dont treat it, it will spread eventually.
probably your body is begining to lack iron. becuse youare a woman. i am sure u have not reached menopause as yet. our bodies need more iron especially after your most recent cycle. the blood that leaves your body takes alot of iron so your body begins to lack iron.if you lack it for too long, you can begin to see external effects such as discoloration of nails, bolimia etc.

What would you be suggesting me to do if i have an ingrown toe nail?

The ingrown toe nail that i have is not very painful but have problems in making it short and it grows all the more faster. I am now not very confident in wearing the nice front open sandal that I have because this toe does not have a good appearance. What would you be suggesting me to do if i have an ingrown toe nail?
i've had an ingrown toe nail 3 times when i was a little kid. Each time I had to have surgery..they gave me a numbing shot and cut the fungus out my nail. You need to go see a pediatriast (sp?) before it gets worse. As it gets worse, it gets extremely painful. When it is yellow or green..then you really need to go ASAP. Don't wear closed shoes..wear sandals during the summer because your feet will sweat and it will make it flare up.What would you be suggesting me to do if i have an ingrown toe nail?
Podiatrist, asap before an infection sets in.
have it removed trust me have had three done. one grew back and had to have it done again.

New shoes? Do you run or walk a lot?

If you ever wonder why your toenails turn black or discolored, the reason is you have a black toe nail fungus. The black toe nail fungus could be the reason why your nails turned black, yellowish, become brittle and chipping or easily breaks away. You can get rid of it in many ways by using over the counter or doctor prescribed topical solutions and creams that when applied to the area should penetrate into the deep layer of the skin.
you should go see a specialist. it could be some disease. that happened to my toe once but i jammed it into a door.

Does any one know a good way to get rid of a toe nail fungus?

Believe it or not, I've read in Dr. columns in the local newspaper that putting Vicks on the nail for months works.

Can't hurt to try.Does any one know a good way to get rid of a toe nail fungus?
My husband had this and it didn't go away until he went to the doc and used prescription medication - Sporanox - He was directed to take it for a period of time, then go off, then start again. This went on for quite a few months. I believe it can be hard on your kidneys, hence the on and off. Anyhow, it did finally go away and has never been back. Sporanox used to be expensive, not sure the cost now. Good luck.

What is an in grown toe nail? Does it really hurt as bad as they say? What does it look/ feel like?

I always hear about this but don't know what it is.What is an in grown toe nail? Does it really hurt as bad as they say? What does it look/ feel like?
LORDY does it hurt!! I have them all the time, and have to spend ( don't try this at home) hours literally just running my fingernail underneath my toenail until it finally comes to the surface so I can cut it. What it does is just grows sideways into your toe, and it's never what it looks like above the nail.. it's always this sharp, fat and pointy toenail that, I swear if it could it would, almost laughs miniacally at you.. Muhahahahaaaaaaa! For me it only hurts when I walk and when I'm trying to get it out from under my skin. When I was pregnant it was really bad, cuz as you know.. you can't really get to your toes so easily. After a few months of just horrible pain, I contorted in odd ways to 'work' out the toenail and had to have my boyfriend cut it for me. He got the clippers out and as he was about to cut it, he looked up at me with confusion in his eyes, and said, '; Did you know that this came from underneath your skin? Like.. it was deeeeep inside of your toe???'; It really grossed him out. It was than that I realized that men are fairly non-observant! lol But anyways.. YES it HURTS. Just imagine your toenail all sweet looking on the outside, but underneath your skin towards your other toes, there is an almost boomerang looking nail that is stabbing you on the inside. Mine is about half the width of my entire toenail. So.. half a toenail inside. If I had you here, I'd draw it for you! lol So there's your gross story of the day! lolWhat is an in grown toe nail? Does it really hurt as bad as they say? What does it look/ feel like?
    Hi there,

This problem has happened to me plenty of times. Not pleasant at all.

A very common problem people may have. An ingrown toenail occurs when the cornor or side of the toenail grows into the flesh of the toe. The results can cause pain %26amp; swelling. In some cases infection can occur.

Some common causes of ingrown toenail include cutting the nails too short or not straight across, injury to the toenail, and wearing shoes that crowd the toenails.

So... to prevent ingrown toenails, file your toenails properly, straight across the nail. Wear comfortable shoes, that won't squish your feet.

If you do happen to have an ingrown toenail (I hope you don't, I don't wish this on anyone), please go see a Podiatrist, do not try to fix your toenail, it will only get worse.

    Hope this helped. Be well!

  • How do you keep deep nail polish colors from staining toe nails? I have had no success with base coat.?

Please explain to me how you remedied this situation and products or methods used. Darker shades (more than light pink for instance) stain my toe nails but not really finger nails. I have tried to search for a product, but have not had success. Thanks. How do you keep deep nail polish colors from staining toe nails? I have had no success with base coat.?
It's best to try a professional base coat. Also if the nail polish is turning your toenails slightly yellow you can buff them with a buff block (can get these at any beauty supply store) to get rid of the stain. The reason it seems to stain is because your toenail polish last much longer than fingernail polish. It prevents oxygen from getting to your nail and consequently causes it to turn yellow. Try a buffing block and see if that helps eliminate some of the discoloration. Good luck. How do you keep deep nail polish colors from staining toe nails? I have had no success with base coat.?
Quick-drying polishes, which are so popular today, are some of the toughest to remove. I suggest first getting rid of as much as possible with polish remover, such as Andrea Nail Remover Pads. Then, using a super fine-grain white buffing block, like Ardell Buffing Block, lightly buff back and forth to help take care of any leftover polish. That should do the trick.

Sorry but there are no quick fixes for ingrown toe nails.
soak it in epson salt and then trying to trim it out
I have fixed many of them by simply prying out the corner of the nail and then placing a tiny ball of rolled up toilet paper under the corner of the nail. It's usually well by the next day or so. I hope this will help.
Get a pedicure. Make sure that it's done in a place where all the equipment is properly sterilized.
cut a v shape in the middle of your nail, it will still be sore for a while but eventually the nail will grow out of the skin.
FIrst, take some hot, but not scalding water, put it in a pot big enough for your foot to fit in, put in some epsom salts, and soak it. Do this a few times a day, and also push on it. It may hurt, but it needs to be done. I get them all the time, and this works for me.

Should my toe nail polish always match my outfit?

Sandal weather is coming %26amp; I feel weird if they don't match, but it's 2 much work 2 change my nail polish every time I change my clothes.Should my toe nail polish always match my outfit?
i wear neutral colors like pale pink, french, etc. so it will match most of the time.Should my toe nail polish always match my outfit?
not anymore. but if you feel weird about it stick with the french manicure on your toes. thats what i do...goes with everything. i get a pedicure once a month. thats how long it stays. if you do it yourself just makesure you do to coats of topcoat to resist chipping.
Well, I mean, You can't change your nail polish everyday to match your outfits sooo....

Maybe stick to white, or neutral, or light shades that will match alot of things.

    Good Luck.
doesn't matter if the colors don't match as long they are not rioting. the color blends should gel together so they don't go all over the place.
no, just make the colours correspond together.

dont have the exact same colour for your nails as your dress or something.
No just make sure they match your fingernails.
not neccessarily just as long as its complementary.
Depends how anal you are about stuff like that. Mine never does.
just make sure your nails always match
no,but i think pink is the right color for this spring

I hurt my small toe nail a while ago, and it turned black and stopped growing, what happened and what do I do?

A good amount of force fell on my small toe, right on the nail. Now it's turned black in colour and it no longer seems to be growing. I'm worried that I may have killed any nerves that were on that part of the toe or that my nail will no longer be able to grow.I hurt my small toe nail a while ago, and it turned black and stopped growing, what happened and what do I do?
Does it hurt to put pressure on the nail? If so, then you probably have bruising under the nail. The nail may fall off completely in a number of weeks (don't worry, a new one will grow back--in which case, take care to observe it in case it is ingrown) or the bruise will clear up over time.

If there is no sensation in the toe at all, this could indicate nerve and/or blood vessel damage. The toe should be looked at by a doctor to insure it has not become necrotic, which could eventually result in gangrene and require amputation. I don't mean to scare you though, this is not very possible, but you might want to get it checked jsut in case.

If the toe seems to be swollen, it may be filled with fluid or blood (blood blister) in which case it may need to be drained to facilitate the healing process. You could probably drain it yourself (using a flame-sterilized sewing needle and antibiotic ointment or hydrogen peroxide), but I would recommend you see a doctor before attempting to drain the toe so you don't exacerbate the problem.

Best wishes and good luck!I hurt my small toe nail a while ago, and it turned black and stopped growing, what happened and what do I do?
this same problem happened to me with my thumb. your toenail is actually still growing underneath the bruised and ruined one you see. give it about a month and it will actually fall off. don't be alarmed, there will be a new one underneath it!
It is possible. That happened to my sister, after the nail falls off you should be able to tell if there is a new nail underneath that pushed it up. Would't sweat it though. I doubt anyone will ever even notice
the blood stopped circulating...........try rubbibg it
Leave it alone it will grow out on it's own. by the way you might want to get an x-ray to let you know if you broke your toe (not that anything can be done about it if you did)
Argh! Go to the doctor man!!

  • 10 Month old big toe nail keeps cracking?

I'm guessing it's from him walking in his walker and going on his tippy toes. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Is this normal?10 Month old big toe nail keeps cracking?
Wow, that STILL happens to my 17 month old! I thought she was the only one. Its really annoying. I find that if I trim them regularly and keep them short the don't tend to crack or break. but she has had a few nasty little breaks with a bit of shard of the nail left behind. :(

i would suggest maybe buying some soft slippers and keeping them on his feet. He shouldn't have shoes on this early as they harm the development of his foot structure. Good luck.

What should I do about my ingrown toe-nail?

What should I do to help heal? What should I do about my ingrown toe-nail?
the best thing i to go to your doctor or a pediatrist. they will remove the part ingrown and kill it with carbolic acid to keep it from growing back. for a couple weeks after you have to soak your feet and apply silver sulfizadine(a cream your doctor will give your an Rx for, than will reduce the damage of the acid to the rest of your toe.)

thats pretty much itWhat should I do about my ingrown toe-nail?
Me,My brother, and Dad all have problems with ingrown toenails constantly, and I even get infections. So I know how painful and annoying they can be! Last time I had one, after digging at it trying to get the nail out of my skin,I decided to leave it completely alone and didnt touch it for about a month or more until my toenails grew long enough and were past the skin.then I clipped the nail and the piece came out and my toes are fine now.

Also once they grow a little they stop hurting.I hope that helps.

    Good luck!
Soak your feet in warm water and Epsom salts a few times a day. This will help relieve the pain. Always cut toenails straight across, never round the edges.

How to get rid of a black toe nail?

My friend has this problem and she really insecure about it. It been like that for a few months. It doesn't hurt her or anything. First of take her to see a doc, nothing on your bod should be black, honestly it sounds like gangrene; I hope she's not a diabetic. Anyway, go to Sally's Beauty Supply and find a little brown bottle of Tea Tree Oil, it will smell very strong kinda like Pin-Sol. Brush this oil on the offending toe 1 - 4 times a day if this doesn't help within 2 weeks definitely go see a doc.How to get rid of a black toe nail?
Black toenails are usually a sign of injury to the nail bed. If it is an injury, then it should have fallen out.

If it is a nail fungus, then it will take some serious, consistent treatment. Vinegar rubbed over the nail makes the area acidic which stops fungus from growing. Steep a green tea bag for 5 min and let it cool then soak the toe also. Do it 2 or 3 times a day. Tea tree oil 3 times a day will help also as it is a natural anti-fungal. Eat yogurt, stop sugar, drink lots of water. Fungal infections are a symptom of a body out of balance.

If it has been going on this long, a trip to the Dr is really needed to rule out other serious problems like diabetic issues.
It sounds to me like a traumatized toe nail. Did she drop ant objects on her toe prior to this happening? Maybe stubbed it good and hard by accident. These are just some of the many ways a toe nail can turn black like this one has. Its typically the result of blood that has accumulated between the nail plate, and the nail bed and is now trapped there with nowhere to go.Since its been that way for a few months, I'd say she still has a few more months at least to go before this clears up. The new nail will eventually push out the blackened nail but this will take time. Toe nails tend to grow at a snails pace compared to fingernails. It can take upwards of a full year for a toenail to completely grow out. She needs to have patience. It will take time, and youcannot speed it up with any herbal jumbo mixture, or anything else. It will grow out on its own - slowly.
it sounds like she has fungus, i heard that you can dip your feet in white vinegar 3 times a day until it clears up and thats supposed to kill the fungus and clear up the nail. but i dont know if it works. or she can always go to the doctor so he can check it out. hope it works good luck to your friend.
If it is from clot of blood after an injury, Arnica 30 will abort it, and if it is coming naturally, there is a rheumatic element to it and can be cured by Causticum 30 few doses. Medicines should be taken in consultation with homeo doctor.
why would you say ';my friend'; when its really you?!
    Go see a doctor

What is more gross? Lifting a toe nail, or watching an eye actually popping out of the socket?

Sorry for the bad images! LOL!What is more gross? Lifting a toe nail, or watching an eye actually popping out of the socket?
That's a tough one, I would say the eye thing. But I guess the worst would be watching your toenail get lifted with the eye that had popped out of the socket, that would suck. What is more gross? Lifting a toe nail, or watching an eye actually popping out of the socket?

    The Eye...
I say the eye, because I've popped a nail before. It's not so bad, it grew back.
the eye! i ripped my toenail off once. it wasn't that bad.
They are both pretty gross but the eye thing is the worst.....)(
    both are gross
Definitely the eye. My kids and I used to watch surgeries on the discovery channel and the eye surgery was the only one that I could not bear to watch. I tried but just couldn't.

If you want to show off your toenails, or at least not cover them up, then you should not feel ashamed to do so.

God does not care what color your toenails are. God only cares about what is in your heart - no matter what people (and the preacher is a person - the preacher is not God) may say and think.

    .
YES, you want to look clean and respectable for church! Just wear closed toe shoes.
    no stockings. open toe sandals.

if you dont like the nail polish that much just take it off! =]
I think the open toe sandals should be okay, as long as you're wearing respectable clothing and accessories...toenail polish isn't that noticeable and it might look like a nice little touch...then again, what exactly do you mean by 'bright?' If they're super bright and funky, then I'd go with the stockings

Sterilize a needle %26amp; poke it throughHow should I drill a hole in my toe nail? (toe got smashed)?
    use a needle. yuk
A needle may not be strong enough to get through the nail. We actually had to sterilize a drill bit (as best we could) and use a very small drill bit to do it. If you don't mind a doctor visit they can do this right in the office usually.
try this - heat a fairly large nail and try to 'burn' through the toe nail. hold the nail with pliers - so that you don't burn your hands.
yeah use a needle...that once happened to me in school and the sports trainer used a needle
    uhhh ...doctor?

I have an infected toe which stated off as an ingrown toenail. I use anti fungal cream but as i dont use it regularly i dont know if that's why its not clearing up. I am going on holiday soon and i want to get rid of it. Will this cream work or does anyone have any other ideas..Will anti fungal cream clear up %26amp; get rid of and infected/ingrown toe nail. If so how long will it take?
The only way to get rid of an infected/ingrown toenail is with antibiotics and the removal of the ingrown part. You need to see a doctor, before it get any worse. A doctor will know what treatment will be best for you. Will anti fungal cream clear up %26amp; get rid of and infected/ingrown toe nail. If so how long will it take?
I think what you need to use is a antibiotic ointment or cream.I would suggest that you call a pharmacy and talk to them and ask them what they would recommend.
Topical cream/ointment, to my experience, is not a cure. I hear the oral anti-fungals have better outcome. You will have to see some kind of provider for the Rx.

How do you treat a bitten off toe nail of a dog?

i was just playing video games when my helper informed me that my dogs toe nail on his front paw was bitten of by my other dog and now I see some red thing shaped as a nail sticking out of my dogs paw and i'm so worried about him what do i do.

P.S. my dogs are both french bulldogs if that helps. How do you treat a bitten off toe nail of a dog?
You really should take your dog to the vet. That red thing you're seeing is the quick, which when cut does bleed. My old dog broke his nail badly and the vet removed most of it and had to cauterize the quick so it wouldn't bleed. How do you treat a bitten off toe nail of a dog?
Clean the area where the torn toenail is located. The dew claw or the toenail up on the side of a dog's paw is a primary location for this type of tear. Remove any hair or dirt off the dog to get a clear view of the injury. Shave the hair from the dog's paw, if necessary, to allow for the appropriate medical care.
I would take him to the vet as soon as possible. He may need stitches if the toe nail is goine. I hope he is alright. Good luck.

How do I cure an infected ingrown toe nail ?

I've seen a doctor, he didn't really do much besides give me some pills... I've soaked it in salt water and that's not helping much, I've put polysporn on it, that's not helping much either. I need it to be healed for friday (today is tuesday).. any suggestions?!How do I cure an infected ingrown toe nail ?
There really isn't much you can do until the nail grows out.

But in the mean time try to lift the end of the corner of your nail that is digging into your skin and apply a piece of cotton in between the nail and your skin. That should give you some relief.

  • Why is my husband fungas toe nail turning black?

My hubby has thick thick did i mention thick toe nails, its fungas i think anyways now the big toe nail is turning black underneth, what can cause that and is there any home redmedies that can cure fungi toe nails? Dr said all they can do is pills but it can cause liver damage and it takes a year to show any improvement. Hes a pool guy and hes feet are always wet and thats what caused it. Why is it black and what can he do to help heal them? thanks. Why is my husband fungas toe nail turning black?
The black toe nail fungus is one of the most common toenail problems experienced by usually athletes who are running or skating or most of the time use their feet for their sport activities. Their feet are always exposed to moisture within due to the socks and shoes they are wearing. This environment is the breeding haven for microorganisms to grow and that include the microorganisms that may develop into ingrown and black toe nail fungus. Anther cause of black toe nail is the accumulation of blood underneath the nail when a toe is hit or rubbed against the tip of a shoe for a longer period of time.

How can I get rid of persistent fungal toe nail infection?
long term oral antifungals...usually about 6 mos. topical meds don't work well.
Try using over the counter lamisil that should work.
HI Dottie...a couple of ways..all SLOW (luckily more of a true annoyance than anything life-threatening!)....

It's been said in many areas that Vick's VapoRub applied daily can do the trick (yep--believe it or not!), but the mainstream means is chronic oral anti-fungal therapies (many available, and not without side effects..check with YOUR doc!).
tea tree oil works for just about anything
my mom had that for awhile, she got some type of surgery, although she had to get the sugery twice, she is recovering from the last one, which was like 2 weeks ago, and her toe is fine now. go to a foot doctor, or any doctor for that matter.
I know for Athlete's Foot, Boric Acid can be used. My husband had AF, and he used the powder form of Boric Acid, put a bit of it in his work boots only twice, and it healed his feet right up. Athlete's foot is a fungus as well. (Same fungus as Ringworm) I wouldnt' be surprised if your toenail infection is the same fungus.

I'm not sure if Boric acid is available over the counter, but an insecticide called Roach Pruf is boric acid. You can get that in hardware stores. (Namely small old fashioned ones, not big box coffin stores)
Probably the only way to get rid off it is get a prescription for Lamisil (to be taken internally). This is not to be confused with the over the counter Lamisil cream that is a regular anti-fungus but will not work on toe nail fungus.

The standard is to take one pill (250 ml) once a day for 90 days straight. A german study showed very good results by taking Lamisil only for one week per month for a whole year.

The disadvantage of Lamisil is that it can affect your liver function. You need to take a blood test before taking it, and one after a month. The other disadvantage is that it is incredibly expensive. It costs now $800 for a full dosage (90 pills). Granted most insurance plans cover it, so you end up with a copay of $75 or so. If not, you can buy Lamisil in Canada for about $500.

Dermatologists also recommend Penlac as a liquid you put on your toes. They recommend it because it is cheaper ($130 for a minuscule bottle that can last 6 to 12 months) and there is no side effect risk (to liver). However, it is a complete rip off. It really does not work for anyone. Don't waste your time on this one.

People recommend anything under the sun (tea tree oil, vinegar, lemon juice, etc...). Don't get your hopes up. It most probably won't work. As everyone, you will probably give most of these benign low cost alternatives a try. But, when you get serious about truly eradicating this really stubborn ailment, just get Lamisil. At this stage there are very few options.
Pour witchazel over your feet and let it dry, don't wash it off. Also make a paste of fresh ginger and put it under the toenail and bandage your toe every night until the infection goes away.
cut right through both of your ankles, guaranteed to work!
    Cut your feet off...
There are OTC solutions, and specialized antibiotics. However, if the condition is serious enough, you will be unable to cure it. To avoid unsightly nails, a foot doctor may suggest removing the nails permanently.
my son tried the dr scholls fungal foot removal kit and after the 1st time it looked better and after 1 week it was almost completely gone

he uses it daily to keep away
try soaking you feet in wine vinegar, the fungus hates it
    GO TO A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Antibiotics from your podiatrist or general practitioner. Nothing else gets rid of it.
The underlying cause of fungus is due to your diet. If you want long term change, eat a healthy diet rich in salad greens, raw fruits and vegetables. Eliminate meat, dairy, and bread from your diet.

I dropped something on my foot yesterday and a black mark which I think is a blood blister soon appeared under my big toe nail. you have to get a metal paper clip (not plasic or you'll burn your self) and apply fire to it and make sure it is really hot then place it on the infected nail and let it melt through then the blood will come out (it won't hurt nails don't have any nerves) TRY IT!

Leave it alone unless it really hurts badly. If there is a lot of swelling, you can possibly get the nail drilled to let the blood out, but usually within a few days the swelling and pain go away on their own, and the blood spot will gradually grow out of your nail over the few months.
The black mark under your toenail is just a bruise from the trauma. Known professionally as a subungual haematoma. There is nothing that your GP will be able to do for it. You just need to wait for it to heal as you would with any other bruise or blister.
if it dose not hurt you leave it alone as it will go on its own. but if it dose what you can do its heat up a pin very hot and put it where the blood blister is toy have to be carefull though better still go to A%26amp;E they will do it for you
This can be painful but Not serious -----Its common for a nail to turn black from this kind of injure The black/purple color is from blood under toe nail This will disappear with time and healing so best to leave alone and rest foot elevate it as much as possible may wish to ice for some relief
I got one on my thumb and I had it x-rayed as it hurt like hell. Nothing was broken, just bruised. I was told to leave the bllod blister to grow out by itself. It took about 3 months to reach the top of my thumb nail.
Leave it alone. If it presses against your shoe, wrap a little padding round it to relieve the pressure (bubble wrap works quite well). It will stop hurting after a day or two but will take a few weeks to grow out.
Just leave it, its not worth the trouble of getting it popped. You'll find the pain will go away after a couple of days and the blood bubble will be gone within a week or 2
have a hot bath to soften the nail then heat up a needle and push it through the nail to pop the blister(it may hurt a bit but its worth the pain)
the doctor can fix it in seconds with a hot wire if you go within a few hours of the injury. Go to the doc right away before it is too late and will take weeks to get better
go to the chiropodist (my spelling is awful) they will have a look at it for you least then you will know too in case nail will fall off if its all black and got a heavy bang to it
    Pop it!!!!!

Heat a pin head up, and use this to burn through the nail. Once thourgh make sure you get to the blood, and squeeze it all out - great fun!
    Argh horrible!!

I have heard doctors heating a paperclip and melting thru the nail until it bursts the blister.
Go to your GP he/she will be able to remove it safely x
    ring nhs direct

I have a dead toe nail and i dontwant to rip it off?

Should i cut it off piece by piece or leave it alone and its hurting bad i need advice fast please. thank you.I have a dead toe nail and i dontwant to rip it off?
I would do what you said, cut it off piece by piece as it becomes loose. One thing you will want to prevent is toenail fungus which can sometimes attack an injured toe nail. Keep it clean and dry. If you socks get damp, change them right away.I have a dead toe nail and i dontwant to rip it off?
Soak the foot in warm Epsom salt water or a weak vinegar solution. It will soften the toenail and allow you to clean around the toenail cuticles and under the toenail with a CLEAN..... (WIPE OFF WITH ALCOHOL) orange stick or fingernail file. You can pour antiseptic on the toe too, rubbing alcohol is good. If it is hurting it probably has swelling or infection going on. To not touch it is too much to ask . Wrapping it might protect it might also cause increased warmth and make an infection worse. Be careful that it is not rubbing the end of your shoe. Wear open toed shoes if you can to let air to it. Throw away old tennis shoes as they harbor fungus or wash them in hot water and let dry completely before you wear them again. Put anti fungal powder in shoes that you cannot wash or trash.
Don't mess with it of course, and if it hurts its still alive. And if you mess with it you might kill all you cells and nerves in that toes nail, and you will infect it, so don't mess with it, just let it grow out.
If it is hurting, it's not dead!! wrap it if it hurts, and wait for it to come off on its own.
Go to a doctor about that.

What is the cure for in grown toe nail?

I have in grown toe nails in both my feet, anybody know the solution to it? any advice would help. thx! What is the cure for in grown toe nail?
How bad is it? If they get severe and untreated long enough, you will have To have a simply surgery to remove the ';ingrown'; part. I had one, too, it was really painful-I went to the podiatrist and she was able to cut the nail down far enough to restart the growth in the correct direction.

If you have insurance-go to the podiatrist. What is the cure for in grown toe nail?
Its hard to say, it depends on how bad.

I had a bad one. Was ***** and yucky and stuff. I used to roll up a piece (tiny) piece of wet cotton wool and place it under the infected part of the nail. Use small scissors to gently lift the nail and push the cotton down. It lifts the nail and gives the infection air.

But THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE.

To go to the Docs. I did and i ended up having a small op to clip it and it got better.

Soaking in very warm water will soften it. You could cut off the detached part, cushion well where shoes might touch and tape. Wear sandals or cut open an old pair of athletic shoes. If there is raw tissue, clean carefully with soap and water, apply antibiotic ointment before cushioning.

try some salicylic acid.I need a home remedy for toe nail fungus?
Its a common problem, more than people realise, its also a sign you have a low blood alkalinity which is something you should reverse cause it'll will improve your energy levels to do so. Also cancer thrives in acidic PH so it helps prevent cancer growths to have a high one. There's a few ways to do that, the simplest is to sprinkle some bi-carb (baking soda) into your water bottle and take between meals. There are health food alternatives but if you want to save money go for the baking soda. In the meantime soak your feet in a mixture of baking soda and water twice a day (say a teaspoon to 3 litres). Scrub your shower with this too, just put some power on a cloth and scrub with your feet while you are taking a shower to kill two birds with one stone. Make sure your bathroom has adequate ventilation so that its not always wet.

Clean your socks with a little powder in the mix.

Two to 2 and half weeks for the symptoms to disappear, but treat for another week to prevent it coming back.
listerine won't do the trick. the medication is expensive. it contains a catalyst that kills the fungus. you have to use it daily for a whole year. there are also pills that can be prescribed, but they have bad side effects, i.e. damage to the liver.
try this its cheap and really works

    ZetaClear

    Nail Fungus

Use Zetaclear Solution to support and maintain your nails naturally. Your hands and feet can be beautiful, reflecting your radiant good health.
after you take a shower, put a few drops of listerine on it. doesn't matter which kind. it can even be generic. but if you do that for several weeks (each time you take a shower!) it'll clear it up.

Have you ever knocked off a toe nail?

I was walking through my house earlier and smacked my big toe on the corner of a piece of lumber and it flipped my toe nail right off. I squeeled like a dang stuck pig and sat down and f***ing cried! This is the second time I've done this is less than two years and I gotta say it hurt just as much this time as it did the last. So much for my exercise program for the next few months.Have you ever knocked off a toe nail?
Yeah, but not all the way off. It just turned blue, and I had to pull it off a month later. I think its infected now, though.Have you ever knocked off a toe nail?
Yep. I cracked my little toe on the coffee table leg. I thought I had just stubbed it. I had to go to work that day, and was walking around in my workboots for about ten hours. When I got home there was a huge bloodstain, and the nail was nowhere to be found. That's when it started hurting real bad. It's kind of scary seeing a toe with no nail.

At any rate it took months for it to grow back; and when it did, it had a funny shape and looked like it was growing out of the side of my toe. I had to see a doctor to get him to look at it. It took 15 min to trim it so that it looked half - fast normal. It never has grown back the way it was.

I'm cringing just reading your post. I can almost feel my toenail getting torn off. Ewwwwww...
Yeah when I first started school I stuck my big toe under the door %26amp; opened the door %26amp; the entire nail ripped off...This was back in 1978 when I was 6 I was knocked out cold, I was found by the cleaning lady/ Pretty daft thing to do...All these many yrs later....Even though it grew back, I still need to treat it with foot medications %26amp; soak it in my foot spa...It bleeds a bit still...%26amp; requires treatments, because back in 1996...I had an in-grown toe nail on the same toe!
I once cut my big toenail in half across the middle when I closed the front door, and ran the metal weather strip on the bottom of the door over it.

I smeared Polysporin all over it, and managed not to lose the nail.

But you are correct, things like that f***ing hurt.
Yeah, it hurts like a son-of-a , too. If you ever want to mix it up a little, try it on your right thumb, if you're right handed. I wrote like a disturbed kindergartener for a month.

    @Robert: LMFAO- Indeed it do!
I've torn off a fingernail before. Yeah, losing nails hurts like a *****. XD

It looks pretty funny though, after it's started healing and you've got a nail-less finger.

Maybe cut your toenails more often/shorter?
I've done that before! Sure cures constipation, doesn't it?
Holy Cow, I can feel it in my toes even though I never knocked them off! It must off hurt.
    well.. that was lucky?

I didn't even know you could knock your toe nails off.
    no
    Ouch... nope, I haven't.
